About Terry "Speed" Heggy

Picture

Terry Heggy got the nickname "Speed" during his time with the Wichita Swim Club in the 1970s.  While he wasn't even close to being the fastest kid on that team, he did develop a lifelong connection to the sport and an associated passion for sharing his love of swimming.

From age nine to the present day, "Speed" has continuously trained, competed, and delighted in the sport of swimming. Along the way he has expanded his horizons into running, cycling, and triathlon. He started coaching in 1982, and since then has trained thousands of athletes at all levels, from complete beginners to national champions.

Coach Heggy's accomplishments include USMS All-American, USMS Level-4 coach certification, the Colorado Coach of the Year, the Jack Buchannan Service Award, Certified Personal Trainer, and service on the USMS Coaches Committee.

Speed has built several successful Masters swimming programs, and has coached multiple National Champions. He currently coaches SaddleBrooke Masters in Arizona, and enjoys sharing his expertise with everyone via articles, videos, and coaching clinics.

Believing that swimming is for everyone, he approaches fitness with a playful attitude and a recognition that each athlete has a unique set of skills, experience, and capability. Coach Heggy understands that because sports knowledge continually evolves, flexibility and adaptability will always be important in figuring out what works best for any individual. The joy is in the journey, and in making productive changes to enhance what you get from your active lifestyle.
